SsangYong Korando The is an off-road vehicle with a short wheelbase and three doors in the first two generations, and with five doors in the third generation. Produces the model of the South Korean company SsangYong.

Originally, the Korando was in the late 1980s and early 1990s a license replica of the Jeep CJ -7, the successor model was manufactured from 1997 to 2006. In the following, however, only the model of the second series is treated. It is based on a sturdy ladder frame with rigid axle rear and independent front suspension and was available as a closed model and convertible.

There three diesel and two petrol engines were offered. Top model was the E32 with 3.2-liter inline six -cylinder engine and 209 to 212 horsepower was offered exclusively in Europe with 4 -speed automatic. All other engines were also available with this automatic or optional 5 -speed manual transmission. The Korando has an electronically selectable four-wheel drive and a reduction which can also be engaged electronically via a rotary switch in the cockpit. The only exception is the top model of the E32 is equipped with permenantem wheel drive and has only shiftable reduction. In addition, an electronic, controlled via the ABS brake differential for both axes on board, the drive-through front-to- rear axle is rigid at zugeschaltetem drive. This equipment makes the Korando unlike most modern SUVs at an extremely off-road vehicle. The engines are developments from Mercedes- Benz which are manufactured by SsangYong itself under license and also achieve longevity of the originals of MB. The other components of the drive comes from the USA. The switching and transmission gear provides the Borg - Warner, the axes come as Jeep Dana. The design of the Korando was inspired by the first or the Korando Jeep CJ -7 as a modern interpretation of the same from the pen of the British designer Ken Greenley.

The Korando is proving to be the vehicle with a high value, although it is with modern SUV, built primarily for the road, can not keep up on the dynamics here. So driving is comfortable even on longer journeys, which is supported by the absorption capacity of the standard 235/75/15er tires. Also standard are air conditioning on board, and two airbags. The Korando offers on all 5 seats, plenty of room for adults to fourth at the rear ride can do for each passenger their own armrest can be folded out.

The payload is in the delivery state around 600 kg, and can be expanded by weight increase to 2.8 t GVW to 900 kg. Noteworthy is the permissible trailer load of 3,500 kg for all engine variants.

In 2000, the Korean company Daewoo took over SsangYong Motor Company and provided the models Musso and Korando from now on under his own name. Daewoo took on the vehicles only optical retouching before like other lights and other grille, technically they remained unchanged. As the end of 2002 already came the end for Daewoo on the German market, SsangYong took over the distribution of its products in early 2003 again under his own name. The supply of spare parts for the Korando is not a problem despite the withdrawal of SsangYong from the German market, since import isolated Spare parts right next to the official service stations from Korea and have appropriate expertise. Motor spare parts are available even at Mercedes -Benz.

The Russian company TagAZ has acquired the production after the end of production in Korea and produces the Korando and the related-art model Musso unchanged.

Since 2010, the fifth generation of Korando is available on the market. This is a purely five-door sport utility vehicle. The design of the vehicle is by Giorgio Giugiaro was first presented with the SsangYong C200 at the Salón Internacional del Automóvil Barcelona in 2009 to the world. Available the new generation is a closed sports utility vehicle in the compact class as well as a convertible. The model is offered so far only with a 175 -hp 2 -liter TDI engine.
