Scottish & Southern Energy plc was founded in 1998 by merger of Scottish Hydro -Electric plc and Southern Electric plc.

The company's business segments are vertically integrated with subsidiaries in electricity generation and transmission business and the electricity supply, storage and supply of natural gas and telecommunications.
