St Paul's Pro-Cathedral

The St. Paul's Pro -Cathedral is an Anglican Pro-Cathedral in Valletta, Malta.

Queen Adelaide had visited the island after Malta became part of the British Empire in 1814. Since there was no Anglican church on the island, she let the members of the colonial administration, the St. Paul's Pro -Cathedral building. The foundation stone was laid on March 20, 1839, completed the church in 1844. It is built in the classical style. The steeple was until the construction of the dome of the Carmelite Church the tallest building of Valletta.

St. Paul 's is located on Independence Square. The church tower is 60 m high, the portal is decorated with Corinthian columns. The interior is kept simple and permanently hung with flags.

Patron of the Church, the Apostle Paul, the first missionary of Malta. He suffered in the period 50-60 AD, a shipwreck and landed so on the island. The patron's feast is on February 10.

A Pro-Cathedral had only temporarily the position of a cathedral or co- cathedral of the Diocese of Gibraltar.

This church is not to be confused with the Roman Catholic Co-Cathedral of St. John.
