St. Barbara Catholic Church (Namibia)

The St. Barbara ( St. Barbara Parish in English ) is a Roman Catholic church in Namibia and is located in the town of Tsumeb in the north central part of the country. It is a National Monument since 15 February 1990.

St. Barbara was the first church built in Tsumeb at the request of the Archdiocese of Windhoek in 1913 and named after Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners. It was consecrated in 1914 and was for some years the only church in the city.

1914, the missionary was from here, initiated by Father Schulte, started and built a small school near the church. Later, the church and the school was expanded to a small mission station with residential buildings and kindergarten.
