St. Clair County (Alabama)
The St. Clair County is a county located in the state of Alabama in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Ashville.
Geography
The County is located in the central northeastern Alabama, is in the east and around 90 km from Georgia and has an area of 1693 square kilometers, of which 51 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Etowah County, Calhoun County, Talladega County, Shelby County, Jefferson County and Blount County.
History
St. Clair County was formed in November 20, 1818.

According to the census of 2000, there were 64 742 people in St. Clair County. Of these, 1,903 people lived in collective centers, the other inhabitants lived in 24,143 households and 18,445 families. The population density was 39 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 90.03 percent White, 8.13 percent African American, 0.37 percent Native American, 0.17 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.41 percent from other races groups; 0.85 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.06 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 24,143 households out of which 35.1 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. In 62.8 percent lived married couples living together, 10.0 percent were single mothers, 23.6 percent were non-families, 20.8 percent of all households were single-person households and 8.2 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or above. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.01.
25.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 7.9 percent between 18 to 24, 30.7 percent between 25 and 44, 24.3 percent between 45 and 64 and 11.7 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 101.8 males and females age 18 and over, there 98.8 males.
The median income for a household was $ 37,285, and the median income for a family $ 43,152. Males have a median income of $ 33,914, women $ 24,433. The per capita income was $ 17,960. 9.6 percent of families and 12.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
