St. Croix County, Wisconsin
The St. Croix County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. In 2010, the County had 84 345 inhabitants and a population density of 45.1 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Hudson, which was named after the Hudson River.
The St. Croix County is part of the metropolitan area of Minneapolis - Saint Paul.
Geography
The County is located in northwestern Wisconsin, and is bordered to the west by Minnesota, separated by the St. Croix River, which forms the natural border. It has an area of 1906 square kilometers, of which 36 square kilometers are water surface. At the St. Croix County borders the following Nachbarcountys:
History
The St. Croix County was formed in 1840 as an original county from parts of the Wisconsin Territory. It was named after the St. Croix River on the western border of the county. The origin of the name is disputed. One theory is the name of a French explorer called St. Croix, another says that the Belgian Franciscan Father Louis Hennepin the river to the Holy Cross: named (French St. Croix ).
