St. Cyricus Island

Called Sveti Kirik, rare Sveti Kirik i Julita ( Bulgarian Свети Кирик, or Свети Кирик и Юлита ) is a near the coast ( 250 m away), Sozopol 8 acre Bulgarian island in the Black Sea.

The eponymous saint Quiricus and Julietta were according to tradition, Christian martyrs, who came in the great persecution at the beginning of the 4th century to death and those on the island since late antiquity, a monastery was consecrated. 1372 was the monastery H. Kyrikos and Julitta by a foundation a vineyard. The monastery was destroyed in 1629 by the Ottomans (see Ottoman rule # Sozopol ).

From 1925 to 1936, was a maritime school for orphans on the island. From 1936 to 2005, the island was used as a naval base with anchorage for Bulgarian warships.
