The St. Francois County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri. In 2010, the County had 65 359 inhabitants and a population density of 56.2 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Farmington.

Geography

The County is located on the northeastern edge of the Ozark Plateau and is drained by the upper reaches of the St. Francis River. It lies about 40 km west of the Mississippi River, which forms the border with Illinois and has an area of 1172 square kilometers, of which 8 square miles is water area. History

The St. Francois County was formed in 1821. It was named after the Saint Francis River, which was named after St. Francis of Assisi, the founder of the Order of Friars Minor.
