St. George's is the capital of the island state Grenada in the Caribbean and has a population of about 7,500 (as of 1999). In the agglomeration of St. George's about 37,000 people live. St. George 's is located on the slopes around a natural horseshoe-shaped harbor bay and has a colonial town, which was dominated by the French and British colonists. The city was founded in 1650 as Fort Royal by the French. Seven kilometers away is the Point Salines airport. On the hills that surround the city on the land side, there are two forts, Fort George and Fort Frederick.

The city is the seat of the Diocese of Saint George's, Grenada.

Natural disasters

Moved as the beginning of September 2004 Hurricane Ivan on Grenada of time, 95 % of the houses of St. George's were destroyed or damaged. In the following years the city was repeatedly attracted by tropical cyclones affected.
