St. Johannis (Ansbach)

The Evangelical-Lutheran parish church of St. John is a listed church building in Ansbach, an independent city in Middle Franconia ( Bavaria).

History

The parish was first mentioned in documents in 1139. It was donated by the Bishop of Würzburg at the altar of St. Gumbert. Construction began in the second decade of the 15th century. The church has three naves. It is a pseudo- basilica: it has a higher central nave, but lacks a proper exposure of the nave through clerestory windows. The nave was completed and stocked in 1435. The two towers of different heights and roofing are probably from this period. With the construction of the choir was started according to the inscription 1441. The choir floor was raised to invest the royal crypt. The nave is connected with the choir to a spatial unit.

The northern long side is divided with struts and faces the side of the market. The building is built of sandstone blocks.

Organ

The organ was in 1962 by the organ builder Rieger ( Schwarzach, Austria ) was built, and reorganized by the organ builder Mühleisen ( Leonberg ) 1991. The abrasive loading instrument has 47 stops on three manuals and pedal. The Spieltrakturen are mechanical, the Registertrakturen are electric.
