St. Joseph County (Michigan)

St. Joseph County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Centreville.

Geography

The County is located in the southwest of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, on the south by Indiana and has an area of 1350 square kilometers, of which 45 square kilometers are water surface. It borders in Michigan clockwise to the following counties: Cass County, Kalamazoo County and Branch County.

History

St. Joseph County was founded in 1822 as an original county of free territory. It was named after Saint Joseph, the patron saint of New France.
