St. Nicholas' Church, Inzersdorf

The parish church Inzersdorf is a Roman Catholic church in the suburb Inzersdorf the 23rd district of Vienna Liesing. It is dedicated to St. Nicholas.

History

With the establishment in 1217 Inzersdorf has one of the oldest parishes in Vienna and is the oldest of the municipality Liesing. After the Turkish siege of the parsonage and Inzersdorf fell became a center of Protestantism. Around the year 1742 around the Gothic predecessor was renovated again, but was destroyed in a fire on June 8, 1817. From 1818 to 1820, the present parish church was built as a neo-classical building. It is a circular central building with dome and steeple nordseitigem. 1845/1846 were made by the landlord Alois Miesbach a modification and an extension to a sacristy, a choir and an ionic portico. His nephew, the industrialist Henry of Drasche - Wartinberg was build in 1860 on the east side of the church a grave chapel for his family, which is used as St. Mary's Chapel use since 1978.

Since 1882 a replica of the Lettnerkreuzes of St. Stefan is placed in the church. After the original 1945 largely burned, it was reconstructed after Inzersdorfer template.

Even after the inclusion of the northern part Inzersdorfs in Vienna 1892, the parish area remained unchanged and was lying partly in Vienna, partly in Inzersdorf. Only in 1989 the northern part of the parish area of the parish Salvator was slammed at the Vienna field as Expositur, from this came the parish Emmaus forth in the Vienna Mountain. The 1931 built in Neustift pastoral station in 1939 was elevated to independent parish Inzersdorf - Neustift, which also meant a reduction in the area of the parish of St. Nicholas.

During the Second World War, the parish church Inzersdorf suffered serious damage, which were removed from 1955 to 1960. Another renovation and remodeling took place in the years 1980/1981, in which the church also received new, designed by Anton Lehmden, church windows. 1999, the artist created a further new painted depiction of the Cross, and added her in the unusual 15th Station of the Resurrection.

In preparation for the parish anniversary in 2017, the building is being restored at the moment, in coordination with the Federal Monuments Office, Municipality of the City of Vienna and the Vienna Archdiocese. In a first step, the organ of the church was renovated in 2008 / 09, in 2013 was followed by a drying walls and new floor along with a newly laid Heating and electronics.
