St. Pauli Girl

St. Pauli Girl was brewed by Beck & Co. Beer of the former St. Pauli Brewery in Bremen, which was until October 2010 exclusively exported to the United States. Since 2012 it is brewed exclusively in St. Lewis / USA.

History

The St. Pauli Brewery was founded in 1857 by the Bremen entrepreneur Luder Rutenberg. Brewed was in the previous Runge 's brewery in the Bleicherstraße in Arminius. 1862 rose Carl Ludwig Wilhelm Brandt as a partner. 1864, master brewer Heinrich Beck has been set, the Franz Gustav Thomas May founded the Kaiser brewery Beck & May later. By 1870, the St. Pauli Brewery rose to become the largest brewery in Bremen. Brandt was now the sole owner since Rutenberg had resigned because of business and personal differences from the company. Already in the 1880s was the St. Pauli Girl is one of the most successful beers Bremer St. Pauli Brewery and won a total of twelve international medals. The strength of the brand was already the export of light lager beer, especially in the United States. Around the turn of the century, it managed the brewery, which was now in the possession of an English corporation, also to gain a foothold in the UK.

In the period before the First World War, St. Pauli Girl was the most famous German export beer. In cooperation with the North German Lloyd, managed to Beck & Co., however, to make the brand Beck's has become synonymous with German beer in the United States to displace other German beers from the export market and the St. Pauli Brauerei in 1918 to take over after various changes of ownership.

St. Pauli Girl survived as a brand and has been re- produced in Bremen from 1965 and introduced as a warehouse and Special Dark in selected regions of the United States. Beginning in 1975, the nationwide marketing began using the illustration of a blonde woman in a dirndl on the label. Since the 1980s, the brand is determined by the annual election of a fashion model for " St. Pauli Girl " advertised.
