The St. Thomas University Florida ( STU) is a Roman Catholic private university in Miami Gardens, a suburb of Miami in the U.S. state of Florida.

History

The roots of the University are located on the founded by Augustinians in 1946 Universidad Católica de Santo Tomás de Villanueva in Havana, Cuba. After expulsion of the Augustinian Order of Cuba by Fidel Castro was made in 1961 by faculty members, the establishment of the Biscayne College in Miami. 1968 was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools ( SACS ); In 1984 he was recognized as a university and renamed to today's St. Thomas University. Support of the university is the Archdiocese of Miami.
