Stabio is a municipality in the district of Stabio, in the district of Mendrisio in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. The village is ten kilometers away from Chiasso, on the Italian border.

The village was already inhabited in Roman times. Its name is derived from the Latin word for stable stabulum.

Traffic

Stabio is on the main road 394 from Mendrisio to Malnate. A highway runs from the entrance of Stabio to motorway access Mendrisio -south. The railway line from Mendriso about Stabio to Malnate was decommissioned in 1928. The community is now connected by a bus service to the public transport network. In 2014, the new S -Bahn line from Mendriso about Stabio to Varese, was first built in 2009 to be opened.
