The Stadio Angelo Massimino (from 1937 to 2002: Stadio Cibali ) is a multi-purpose stadium with a track and field facility in Catania, the second largest city of the Italian island of Sicily. It serves mainly as a venue of Catania Calcio, which currently plays in Serie A.

History

The stadium was built in 1937 and can accommodate 23,420 spectators. During the Universiade in August 1997 in Sicily found the athletics competitions held in Catania. For this purpose, the stadium was renovated. In 2002, it was named after the chairman of Calcio Catania, Angelo Massimino, named. Following clashes between the fans of Catania Calcio and U.S. Palermo outside the stadium, which ended with the death of a policeman Filippo Raciti, were allowed to be held at the Stadio Angelo Massimino on 14 February 2007 to 30 June 2007, Series A no matches.
