The Stadio Giovanni Zini is a football stadium in the Italian city of Cremona in the eponymous province of the Lombardy region. It is the home of the football club U.S. Cremonese.

History

The inauguration ceremony took place on September 2, 1929. Today it has a total capacity of 20 034 spectators. For the third class Lega Pro Prima Divisione A, the number of audience for security is limited to 7,490 spectators. In honor of Giovanni Zini, former goalkeeper of the U.S. Cremonese, the venue got its name. Zini fell in the First World War. The square in front of the stadium carries since 2007 the name Piazzale Domenico New Ulm. Domenico New Ulm (1922-2006) was from 1967 to 2001 president of the Football Association of Cremona.

The main grandstand of the stadium consists of three separate juxtaposed and covered ranks; of which the central part is equipped with seats. The opposite stand and the two Located behind are uncovered, stepped concrete structures without plastic seats or breakwater. By reducing the allowable capacity of the only seat rank in the main stand and the two ranks are currently being used behind the goals. In the summer of 2007, there were major renovations at the stadium. From 2 July to 10 August resulted in 60 workers by the renovation work. This 180 tons of concrete were used and 8.5 tons of colors and paints used. In August 2008, were retrofitted the stadium with security technology. There were, inter alia, placed at the inputs 22 turnstiles and installed a personalized entry card system. In addition, distributed in and around the stadium 18 cameras a video surveillance system; which are controlled by a room on the bleachers.

The return match in the finals of the Coppa Italia 1988/89 between Sampdoria and Napoli had to dodge in the stadium of Cremona; since the Stadio Luigi Ferraris in Genoa was rebuilt for the World Cup 1990. Sampdoria defeated the SSC 4-0 and the club won his third Italian Cup. In addition, Sampdoria wore out his games in Serie A and the European Cup Winners' Cup in Cremona.
