The Abisol Arena (proper spelling: ABISOL ARENA until 2012: Stadium on Strünkede Castle, sl: also Westfaliastadion or castle Strünkede ) is the largest sports stadium in the city of Herne. It was built in 1910 as a combined football and athletics stadium in the park of Schloss Strünkede. It offers approximately 32,000 spectators. For its time it was one of the largest stadiums in Germany. The stadium has a running track, a Marathon and a covered grandstand.

In the 1950s, the stadium was expanded and extended by a covered seat grandstand with 2,000 seats. A renovation of the stadium took place in 1976.

The stadium is used for football club SC Westfalia Herne 04 as a home. Mid -1970s, also took the Bundesliga club VfL Bochum during the construction of the new stadium, the Ruhr facility to host its home games.

The attendance record was set on May 28, 1960, when 35,000 spectators watched the 3:4 defeat of Westfalia Herne against Hamburger SV in the final round of the German Cup.

Due to the historic setting, the stadium many Ground hoppers is considered favorite stadium.

On October 24, 2010, the rights of the stadium names have been drawn. The winner of the raffle renounced the renaming of the stadium so that the winning ticket was sold. A resident of Herne company bought the lot. The name of the stadium was until the end of the 2010/11 season TREL Ruhr Arena.

In August 2012, the Abisol GmbH acquired the naming rights to the venue, which was subsequently renamed in ABISOL ARENA.
