SV Austria Salzburg

The Lehener stadium in Salzburg, district fief from 1971 to 2002, the home of the football club SV Austria Salzburg. In 2006 it was demolished and then redeveloped the reason.

Planning and construction

Due to the rise of Austria Salzburg in the then National League Bundesliga called, began in the mid -1960s plans to build a stadium. The locations fief and Liefering were called.

In September 1966, a first draft of the stadium was built by the architect Hanns Wiser with a capacity of 15,000 spectators and two covered stands. It was only in August 1967 the municipal council decided that the stadium will be built in fief and not in Liefering. In addition, the construction program was increased to 18,000 spectators and thus a redesign was necessary that created Wiser together with Jacob Adlhart. Because in August 1969 were not enough the funds for the grandstands were shortened and seats replaced with standing room to allow for the same capacity of a cheaper construction.

In October 1969, work began on construction of the stadium. However, the estimated cost of 16 million shillings up to the end of construction in 1971 to 38 million. During these two years Austria Salzburg played on the grounds of the ASV in Itzling.

Highlights and remodeling

The opening match on September 18, 1971 took place in front of 12,000 spectators against the Tunisian national team, Austria Salzburg won 3-2. The floodlighting was completed on 27 April 1974 as riparian protests against it were up to the Administrative Court. For the inauguration of the floodlights, it was a game against the Austrian national football team; the game ended 1-1.

During the winter break of the 1992/93 season a standing terrace has been converted into seats, so the stadium was the requirements for international games fair. End of the stadium

With a design by the architects Siegfried Schmid Berger and Peter Bang had - even in international matches - found more than 14,000 spectators in the stadium court, the costs were estimated at 80 million shillings. In May 1997, the plans were called off because due to the European Football Championship 2008, a completely new building, the EM Stadion Wals, was preferred.

The final game of Austria took place on 4 December 2002 against SK Sturm Graz before about 6,000 spectators instead, Salzburg won 2-1. " The stadium fief was a boon for the Salzburg sports enthusiasts and also the basis for the great results of the Salzburg Austria ," the Salzburg journalist Gerhardt Bacher.

After moving the club into the football stadium of the stadium was shut down; the demolition started on 19 January 2006. Instead the football stadium, the district center New center fief was built. This is the city library, shops, apartments and a senior center.
