Stadionbuurt
The Stadionbuurt (Stadium District) is a neighborhood in Amsterdam Oud -Zuid, located in the city of Amsterdam Zuid ( North Holland province ) and had in the first half of 2012, around 12,000 inhabitants. The Stadionbuurt was known by the Summer Olympics of 1928.
History
The director of " Gemeentelijke Woningdienst " (Institution of the municipality of Housing ), Arie Keppler, in Amsterdam came early 20th century to be constructed with a plan by 1750 dwellings partly because of the housing shortage in the city. 1919, the Dutch architect Jan Gratama ( 1877-1947 ) employed as a supervisor to the plan was defined in further detail. Keppler wanted to realize the so-called "Uniform Block Front" in the Stadionbuurt under the influence of German architects. Due to the explosive rise in construction costs, in 1919, the costs were compared to 1914 increased by 350%, the plan was postponed for later.
The Stadionbuurt, also known as Olympic Gebied ( " Olympic Kwartier " ) includes the space Stadionplein opposite the Olympic Stadium, the Stadionterrein around the Olympic Stadium with sports facilities. In addition, the City Park Schinkel islands, consisting of four small islands ( island ): Voetbaleiland, Eiland Park, Tennis island and Natuureiland. A bicycle path connects the Amsterdamse Bos and the Vondelpark with the islands.
In the north of the Olympic Gebied a new residential area was built whose architecture is reminiscent of the Amsterdam School ( Amsterdamse School).
Between 2005 and 2008 there emerged some 900 new dwellings. The architecture and the street plan was based on Hendrik Petrus Berlage's Plan Zuid Amsterdam.
Since 1 May 2010, the city districts Amsterdam Oud -Zuid ( 85,000 inhabitants) and Zuideramstel are joined together to Amsterdam Zuid. The Stadionbuurt is located in Amsterdam Oud- Zuid district.
Transport connection
Trams No. 16 and 24 (as of October 2012) the Stadionbuurt be reached. The nr. 24 stops at Stadionweg and No. 16 on the Stadionplein.
