FC Steaua Bucharest

Since 1974, the Ghencea Stadium, also known as " Steaua Stadium ", the venue of the Romanian football first division club FC Steaua Bucharest. It is a pure football stadium without a running track with a seating capacity of about 28,000.

Location

The stadium is located in the south- west of Bucharest in the district Ghencea, which gives the stadium its name. It is part of the sports complex Ghencea (Romanian Complexul Sportiv Steaua) and is at the address Bulevardul Ghencea to find No. 34-35.

Stadium

The Ghencea Stadium was built in 1974 by the Ministry of Defence of Romania, which also Steaua Bucharest belonged at that time. Inaugurated with a friendly match between Steaua Bucharest and OFK Belgrade on 9 April 1974 which ended in a 2-2 draw.

During the nearly year-long renovation work in 2006 Steaua Bucharest wore its home games at the National Stadium Lia Manoliu. With completion of construction in September 2006, the club was able to return in the Ghencea Stadium again.

The stadium has since 1991 floodlights, which has a strength of 1400 lux. With a 4-1 win against Steaua FCM Bacău the floodlights was inaugurated on 14 August 1991.

Due to unpaid balance of rental payments and high rental costs for the use stadium arose between the Ministry of Defence and the owner of Steaua, Gigi Becali, repeated disputes.
