Stadthalle Graz

The Stadthalle Graz in Graz- Jakomini is the largest event hall in Graz. It was built between April 2000 and early 2002.

Building

The Stadthalle Graz, which is operated by the Messe Congress BetriebsgmbH, stands on the site of the former Hall 1 at the trade show center. Between 1998 and 1999, the architectural competition for the city hall was carried out. The contract was awarded for the architect Klaus Kada in December 1999. The expandable to a maximum of 14,000 square hall consists of upper and ground floor. The virtually column- free hall is available only on four basic pillars, which are located in every corner of the hall. The canopy extends far beyond the entire forecourt.

Immediately adjacent to the city hall adjoins the then built exhibition hall A at the architect Florian Riegler and Roger Riewe.

History

Prior to the establishment of the hall were larger events only at the ice rink Liebenau or in black - leisure center outside the town square.

The first major event in the hall, a Kalachakra transmission, took place in 2002. The 14th Dalai Lama was personally present. The hall was previously place for numerous events such as betting, dass. or garden music. On 16 November 2007 for the first time found the music event The Dome with its 44th, and later its 52th edition in the Graz Stadthalle. Other events were about 3 Night Of The Jumps, the Handball Euro 2010, a performance by the Harlem Globetrotters, several major concerts ( Xavier Naidoo, Pink, etc.).
