Stadttheater Amberg

The theater Amberg is a multi-line Gastspieltheater in the Bavarian town of Amberg ( Regierungsbezirk Oberpfalz).

History

After the secularization of the Franciscan monastery a classical rank theater was constructed in 1803 in the ruins of the original monastery church built. In the years 1846/47 and 1862/63, it was remodeled several times. After the Second World War, the theater was recorded up to the year 1953 with its own ensemble. A report of the Bavarian insurance chamber led to the closure because of fire danger. The planned sale of the building prevented an opinion among others of Monuments Board, which the city theater, the predicate " absolutely worth preserving " exhibited. After renovations, where auditorium and stage were rotated 180 degrees, the theater on October 12, 1978, reopened as Gastspieltheater. In the years 2002 and 2003 further renovations took place, so the main light signal box was replaced and the barrel vault rehabilitated.
