Stadttheater Konstanz

The Stadttheater Konstanz is the theater of the city of Constance, whose history dates back to the year 1607.

History

The theater was built 400 years ago as a high school of Constance Jesuit monastery. The beginning of the theatrical game in Konstanz presented here represents a production of Jesuit students on the occasion of a feast of the dedication, therefore the theater is the oldest theater in Germany permanently recorded. In the 1930s, the building was rebuilt, the stage tower and the present shape of the auditorium hall arose. After the Second World War the foundation was to play In 1948 / 1949. In April 1989, the decision was taken to set up a children 's and youth theater division at the City Theatre, in May 1990, this facility could be completed.

Venues

In addition to the city proper theater building with 400 spectator seats, the theater Constance uses also the so-called " Hall of Mirrors ", a former goods shed at the harbor of Constance, for its productions, particularly for experimental and young theater. Before moving into the hall of mirrors, the performances of the Young Theatre took place in an old engine shed. In administrative and workshop building of the theater, there is also a small studio theater. This workshop stage can accommodate up to 120 people, the hall of mirrors is designed for up to 200 spectators. After the end of each playing season in July, the ensemble with its summer theater is a regular guest on the other side of Lake Constance, Überlingen (formerly in Meersburg).

At the workshop stage a puppet and puppet theater with up to seven productions per season was introduced for 2009/ 2010.

Number of

Between the late 1990s and the first years of the 21st century, the stage had an annual average of 86,000 visitors viewers. In the anniversary season 2006-2007, when the theater was host of the Stuttgart theater days, a visitor record was set with more than 112,000 spectators. 27,000 spectators were allocated to 170 ideas of the Young Theatre.

Budget

The budget of the theater in 2008 was around six million euros, 4.7 million euros received grants the stage. About one million of these grants come from the assigned by the Land Baden-Württemberg the city of Konstanz casino tax. The box office was 12.5 % of the budget.
