Staggers Rail Act

The Staggers Rail Act is a October 14, 1980 signed by U.S. President Jimmy Carter federal law in the United States. With the law a comprehensive deregulation of the American railroad industry was introduced and repealed the provisions of the Interstate Commerce Act of 1887. The railway companies were especially exempted from the restrictions on the fixing of tariffs and network operation.

The law was after the Railroad Revitalization and Regulatory Reform Act is the second important legislation, which dealt with the reorganization of the railways in the late 20th century in the USA. It was named after Harley Orrin Staggers, a Congressman from West Virginia, who chaired the Committee on interstate and foreign commerce. This was the first time in American history that the name of the conveyor of the law was officially enshrined in the name. However, the common language term was longer practice ( Jones Act ).
