Staging (data)

Staging is a process of information integration in which data in a Data Region (English: staging area, the staging area or gathering place in the military ) are temporarily stored in order to clean up there and transform. After cleansing and transformation step, the data is loaded into a target database.

Staging and ETL process

Staging is typically used in the implementation of an ETL. This process serves data from a number of operational databases into a central database - often a data warehouse (data warehouse ) - merge. There, text mining, data can be analyzed by methods such as, inter alia, OLAP, data-mining.

Staging Area

The data are first extracted from the data sources ( extract) and collected in the staging area and buffered. There the data are adjusted ( cleanse, scrub ) and transformed (transform ), without affecting the data sources on. The processed data are finally stored in the staging area to the target database (load). The adjusted data can also be used to align the data in the source (system) s.
