Stallikon is a municipality in the district of Affoltern the canton of Zurich in Switzerland.

The decision for today's official coat of arms met the Stalliker council in 1931, to distinguish it from the family crest of the Effinger showing a rafter in the red box.

Geography

On the political community Stallikon include a large portion of the Albisgrates with the Uetliberg, the Berggut Mädikon, the Baldern and Buechenegg and the middle part of the Reppischtals with the hamlets Tägerst, Gamlikon, Aumüli, villages and Stallikon Sellenbüren and individual farms. The highest point in the municipality Stallikon is on the Uetliberg, the mountain city of Zurich. The western Sellenbüren is substantially larger than the village Stallikon.

History

The oldest settlement on the territory of the present municipality was located on the top of Uetliberg, the Uto Kulm. Since the Neolithic era, there was a village there, with associated fortification ( oppidum Uetliberg ). Later, the Romans built there a watchtower. Recently there was the Uetliburg, which was built by the Alemanni. An equally early populated point was the Ofengüpf above Sellenbüren.

The Uetliberg was the seat of the Barons of Sellenbüren that should have the monastery of St. Blaise in the 10th century, richly endowed with estates and farms in Stallikon. Henry of Sellenbüren gifted end of the 11th century the monastery Muri with lands, and Konrad left in the 12th century on his own ground Engelberg monastery built and vergabte him goods. Thus, the three monasteries of St. Blaise, Muri and Engelberg possessed essential possessions in Stallikertal.
