Stampe et Vertongen

Stampe & Vertongen was a Belgian manufacturer of aircraft. The company was founded in 1922 by Jean Stampe and Maurice Vertongen in Antwerp. The company was a major flight school, among other things, was also active in air transportation. In 1930, the company became an agent for the British company De Havilland and sold " Moths " and " Puss Moths ". It also airplanes were built, which were designed by Alfred Renard. In 1944, Jean Stampe's factory was destroyed by German V.1. After the war, in 1947, renewed Stampe and Vertongen partnership with Alfred Renard to found the company Stampe et Renard Co.. This developed the SV -4B with a stronger Gipsy Major X -series engine and 145 hp and a canopy. The Belgian Air Force wanted to replace their DH82 "Tiger Moth " in 1947 and ordered 65 SV -4B for the " Ecole de Pilotage Elementaire " (beginner training). The last SV -4B was not completed until October 7, 1955.
