Stan Rice

Stan Rice ( born November 7, 1942 in Dallas, Texas, † December 9, 2002 in New Orleans, Louisiana) was an American poet and painter.

Life

Stan Rice was born in 1942 as the son of Stanley and Margaret Rice. His siblings included a brother, Larry Rice, and the two sisters Nancy Rice Diamond and Cynthia Rice Rogers. He was the husband of writer Anne Rice, with whom he became the father of two children: one daughter, Michelle ( born September 21, 1966; † August 5, 1972 ), and a son, the writer Christopher Rice (born 1978 ).

Rice was a professor of English and Creative Writing and deputy director of the Poetry Center at San Francisco State University. Until 1989, he was there also Chairman of the Creative Writing Department.

After Rice retired in 1988, he devoted himself entirely to writing and painting.

On December 9, 2002, he died at the age of 60 of a brain tumor. He was buried in Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans.
