Stan Van Gundy

Stan Van Gundy ( born August 26, 1959 in Indio, California) is an American basketball coach, most recently head coach of the Orlando Magic. He is the brother of former Houston Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy.

College career

Stan Van Gundy began his coaching career in 1987 as assistant coach of the Canisius College and 1988 as well. Than assistant coach at Fordham University He then became head coach at Castleton State College and led the team to a record of 68:18 victories. He broke in his first season as coach of the team the school record. He was later the head coach at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. In 1994, he broke then Stu Jackson as coach from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. In his eight-year career as a college coach, he recorded a score of 135:92 victories.

Miami Heat

In 1995 he became the assistant to Pat Riley for the Miami Heat. As Riley would no longer be coach, but only President of the Miami Heat in the 2003/04 season, however, Van Gundy took over the team. He finished the season with 42 victories from. Many of the victories he was able to record at the end of the season especially. He arranged for a surprise when Miami could even reach the second round of the playoffs in the same season. In the offseason of 2004, the Los Angeles Lakers Shaquille O'Neal were trading to Miami, so the team were able to conclude the following season with 59 victories. This led them to the Eastern Conference. Stan Van Gundy was even allowed to ever coach the first Heat coach the All- Star team. After the 3:4 -Eastern - Conference- final defeat in 2005 and further simplifying internal problems Van Gundy was dismissed on 12 December 2005.

Orlando Magic

Candidates for Van Gundy were the Orlando Magic and Sacramento Kings. On 5 June 2007 he finally signed with the Orlando Magic. His first season in Orlando, he finished with a 52:30 winning balance. In the first round of the playoffs, he was even able to beat the Toronto Raptors 4-1, but lost in the second round 4-1 victory over the Detroit Pistons. The following year, the Magic closed under Van Gundy the regular season with 59 wins and a further play-off participation from. After allowing the Philadelphia 76ers 4:2 and 4:3 defeated the Boston Celtics, the Magic were able to maintain in the Eastern Conference finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-2 and were thus Eastern Conference Champions. In the finals, Van Gundy and his team were subject, however, Phil Jackson and his Los Angeles Lakers 1:4.
