Stanage Edge

Stanage Edge Stanage also shortens (from English "Stone Edge " dt " stone edge " ) is a sandstone terrain partial demolition in the Peak District National Park.

Geography and Trivia

The northern part of about 6 km long landform is located between High Peak in Derbyshire and Sheffield in South Yorkshire. The highest point is High Neb at 458 meters above sea level. Rock Climbing

Stanage Edge is a popular destination for hiking, paragliding and rock climbing in the Peak District. The terrain edge extends northward from Cowper Stone by Stanage End. The northern cliffs are as Burbage Rocks, Froggatt Edge; Curbar Edge, Baslow Edge and Edge Birden called. The southernmost point of Stanage Edge is a powerful block of sandstone called " Cowper Stone."

Although the terrain edge is only about 30 m height difference, it is one of the most popular meeting places for climbers in the UK. It offers an abundance of climbing routes. On Stanage Edge is also the challenging Right Unconquerable ( HVS 5a ), the first ascent in 1949 by Joe Brown is considered a milestone in British climbing. The 5000 m long " Girdle Travers " is the longest climbing route in the UK. It was first celebrated in 1992 completely by the British climber Ron Fawcett and is managed with difficulty " E5 6b (ish) ".

  • Stanage Edge in 2005 was the location for the Jane Austen novel adaptation Pride and Prejudice. In a setting actress Keira Knightley on a rock above the abyss of Stanage Edge.
