Standard International Trade Classification

The International Commodity Classification for Foreign Trade and Standard International Trade Classification (SITC ) is a statistical classification that is used for the classification of goods in the foreign trade statistics and was developed by the United Nations.

SITC is closely related to the so-called Harmonized System Commodity Description and Coding System (HS) and the Combined Nomenclature (CN). The aim of these systems is to be able to make trade statistics internationally comparable. They are used, among other things, to measure the flow of goods between countries (foreign trade) uniform. At the same time take advantage of the customs authorities of these systems to associate certain groups of goods and tariffs. The HS nomenclature is based on the EU Customs Tariff. However it can be from the version SITC Rev. 3, the respective HS heading derived.
