Stanford University Press ( SUP ) is the publishing house of Stanford University in Stanford, California, in the United States.

Just one year after the founding of the University in 1891, the first work appeared with the imprint " Stanford ". The name " Stanford University Press " in 1895 was to find the first time on a book. 1917 acquired the University of the printing and built them until 1925 from a publisher. Since 1999, the publisher is organizationally assigned to the university library.

According to the company, the publisher publishes about 130 books annually, with the professional focus is on the humanities and social sciences. Among the authors of the publisher include the marine biologist Richard Ellis and the philosopher Daniel Boyarin. The linguist Joseph Greenberg published here his later work, including his influential 1987 Language in the Americas. The Polish scientist Andrzej Walicki received the Balzan Prize for History for his Slavic cultural history, whose English version was published by Stanford University Press, 1998.
