Stanislas Touchet

Stanislas - Arthur -Xavier Touchet Cardinal ( born November 13, 1842 in Soliers, France, † 23 September 1926 in Orléans ) was Bishop of Orléans.

Life

Stanislas - Arthur -Xavier Touchet, a nephew of Bishop Arthur -Xavier Ducellier and born like this in Soliers, studied at the Seminary of St. Sulpice in Paris Catholic theology and philosophy. On 13 June 1872 he received the sacrament of Holy Orders and was subsequently employed as a pastor in the Archdiocese of Besançon. There, since 1887, his uncle was archbishop.

1894 he was appointed by Pope Leo XIII. Bishop of Orléans. 1922 took him by Pope Pius XI. as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva in the College of Cardinals. Stanislas - Arthur -Xavier Touchet died on 23 September 1926 in Orléans and was buried in the local cathedral.

Work

During his tenure as Bishop of Orléans to Touchet was intensely occupied with the investigation of the trial of Jeanne d' Arc. Through his work was largely their beatification in 1909 by Pius X and the canonization in 1920 by Benedict XV. initiated and prepared. Touchet also was a strong opponent of the strict separation of church and state in France.
