Stanisław Orzechowski

Stanisław Orzechowski (* November 11, 1513, † 1566) is a representative of the Polish Renaissance, probably originated in Przemysl and studied in Krakow ( 1526-1528 ), Vienna, Wittenberg and Leipzig ( 1528-1531 ) as well as at several Italian universities (1531 -1540 ). In 1541 he took a pastorate near Przemysl. He turned in political writings against celibacy and had to withdraw it before the episcopal court. Nevertheless, he married in 1551, which led to a protracted dispute with the church leadership, but lightly ran for Orzechowski. In his last years he inveighed against the reformatory efforts, inter alia, of Krowicki and Frycz - Modrzewski. Orzechowski wrote his works in Polish as well as in Latin.
