Stanisław Zawadzki

Stanisław Zawadzki (* 1743 in Warsaw, † October 19, 1806 ) was a Polish architect of the late baroque and classicism. He is seen as a pioneer of style of Empires in Polish architecture.

Life

Zawadzki was born in 1743 in Warsaw. From 1769 he studied architecture at the Accademia di San Luca in Rome. There he met named after Andrea Palladio and Palladianism appreciate. 1776, he was made an honorary member of the Academy. After his return to Poland he decided on a military career, in which he attained the rank of major general of the engineer troops of the Royal Polish army. He worked as a professor of architecture in the cadet training and commander of the Engineer Corps of the crown. After his co-worker Hilary Szpilowski accused him of faulty constructions in the construction of military facilities in Kamieniec Podolski, he was discharged from the military service in 1783. From now on he devoted himself mainly civil architecture. During the Kościuszko Uprising, he worked again plans for the defense of Warsaw. He traveled along with Italy and England and Germany.
