Stanley Grenz

Stanley James Cross ( born January 7, 1950 in Alpena, Michigan; † 11 March 2005 in Vancouver, Canada) was an American Christian theologian and ethicist in the Baptist tradition.

Life

Stanley border grew up as the son of a German -born Baptist minister in Michigan, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana and Colorado. He studied at the University of Colorado at Denver Seminary and theology, was ordained as a Baptist minister in 1976, and his doctorate in 1978 at the University of Munich under Wolfhart Pannenberg magna cum laude with a thesis on the Baptist Isaac Backus Puritans.

After graduating, he spent two years as a pastor in Winnipeg, then taught from 1981 to 1990 he. Systematic theology and Christian ethics at North American Baptist Seminary in Sioux Falls He was McDonald Professor of Baptist Heritage, Theology and Ethics at Carey appointed Pioneer Theological College in Vancouver in 1992. In 2002, he taught for a year at Baylor University in Texas and then took his professorship at Carey Theological College in again. In addition to teaching, he worked in various positions for the Baptist World Alliance and national Baptist bodies and belonged to the advisory editors of Christianity Today.

On 11 March 2005, he died suddenly in his sleep at a massive brain hemorrhage caused by an aneurysm.

Trinity Western University awarded him posthumously in April 2005 an honorary doctorate from the Princeton Theological Review dedicated to him in the spring of 2006, an entire issue.

Stanley border was married and had two children.
