Stanley Pons

Stanley Pons ( born 1943 in Valdese, North Carolina ) is an American electrical chemist who was known for his work with Martin Fleischmann on cold fusion in the 1980s and 1990s.

Pons and Fleischmann met when Pons was a student in Professor Alan Bewick's group at the University of Southampton, where in 1978 his Ph.D. obtained. On March 23, 1989, when Pons was a researcher at the University of Utah, he and Fleischmann published the experimental discovery of cold fusion - a result which was previously considered unattainable. After a brief period of public acclaim both shoddy research and irreproducible, inaccurate results were accused. Pons moved in 1992, together with Martin Fleischmann to France to work on IMRA laboratory (part of Technova Corporation, a subsidiary of Toyota). 1995, the paths of the two, as first Fleischmann and a year later parted Pons left the company.

Since 1999, Pons lives in southern France. According to a report of the chemical faculty of the University of Utah, he is no longer involved in research since 2000.
