Stanley Rous

Sir Stanley Rous, CBE ( born April 25, 1895 in Watford, † July 18, 1986 in London) was the sixth President of the World football governing body FIFA and former referee.

Life

Prior to his career as a football official Stanley Rous was referee. He whistled, inter alia, the international matches against Switzerland Germany on 15 April 1928 in Bern ( 2:3 ), and on May 4, 1930 in Zurich ( 0:5 ).

1961-1974 he worked as president in FIFA headquarters in Zurich. On June 11, 1974 he was honorary president of FIFA.

Before the time when FIFA President Sir Stanley Rous was Secretary of the British Football Association FA, he sought a leading role in the FIFA to. However, he had to wait, before 1961, the Englishman Arthur Drewry died and Stanley Rous was able to take on this role for two FIFA president.

At the FIFA Congress 1970 in Mexico City, the Europeans lost their majority in the key committee for the World Cup and the Olympic tournament in the FIFA for the first time. An anti-European sentiment about spreading. Still, however, was occupied by a European with Sir Stanley Rous, the most important place in the global soccer.
