Stanley Thatcher Blake

Stanley Thatcher Blake ( * 1910 in Queensland, † February 24, 1973 in Brisbane, Queensland) was an Australian botanist. His botanical author abbreviation is " STBlake ".

Early years

Stanley Thatcher Blake in 1910 (according to other sources, 1911) was born in Queensland. He studied at the University of Queensland Botany, where she earned the title of 1932 B.Sc. (Bachelor of Science ) and in 1934 the M.Sc. (Master of Sciences).

Professional life

In the years 1935 to 1937 Blake collected on various expeditions for the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute plant material from the west Queensland. In 1939 he examined the possibilities of cultivating plants in Queensland, from which natural rubber can be obtained.

In 1945 he was hired as a botanist at the Queensland Herbarium in Brisbane, where he was also chief botanist later. In this capacity, he described in 1953 as the first eucalyptus Eucalyptus porrecta. In 1956 it was from the University of Queensland the title D.Sc. (Doctor of Science) awarded. In 1965 he was appointed "Australian Botanical Liaison Officer" to the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew in the United Kingdom. Until his death in 1973 he remained at the Queensland Herbarium.

Death

Blake died in February 24, 1973 in Brisbane at the age of 63 years.
