Stans, Tyrol

Stan is a municipality with 1912 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district Schwaz, Tyrol ( Austria ).

History

The name first appears in the so-called Stans Quartinusurkunde the year 827 AD as Stauanes.

The oldest traces of settlement date back to the first millennium BC. On the Castle Hill at Stans 1952-1957 archaeological investigations were carried out. Building remains from the Late Hallstatt and La Tène period were uncovered, including residential and fireplaces. The largest building from the La Tène period measured approximately 8x9 m square. Both the Hallstatt and the La Tène settlements were destroyed by a fire - in both cases apparently the burn marks were soon searched for useful articles.

Rathold of char, a Rapotone and landowners in Stans, regarded as the founder of St. George Berg ( 950 ).

The old church, dedicated to St. Lawrence and Ulrich, is documented in 1337 called. But the church patronage Lawrence suggests a very ancient place of worship. Excavation finds allow the emergence of the first church date back to the 5th century. Thus Stans is one of the very few places in North Tyrol, dates back its history the Church in the time of the first evangelization of the country.

Since 1470 had Stan's share of the Schwaz silver and copper mining. Smelters were at the Stan Erbach and the trades house of Tänzl family (Silver Torch) has been preserved from that time.

1296 Tratzberg castle is mentioned for the first time. The princes, the friend Berger, the trades Tänzl family, the wealthy Fugger family, the Counts of Tannenberg were owners of Tratzberg. Since 1848 the castle is owned by the Counts Enzenberg. The Ahrner copper union of the Counts Tannenberg built 1802 a Leonische wire products factory, which manufactures a wide range of products from fine silver and copper wires today.

From 1890 until the First World War there were in the first Stans Kneipp Institute in Tyrol.

Coat of arms

Description: A split of gold and blue shield with an upstanding black rust in the golden field and three golden ears of wheat in the blue field. Colors of the municipality Flag: yellow-blue. Reason: The rust of St. Lawrence, symbolizes the patronal feast of the old parish church. With the ears, which originate from the supposed arms of Ratold of char, is reminiscent of the founder of the monastery George Berg.

In 1960 Stans of the Tyrolean provincial government, the municipal coat of arms awarded.

Culture and sights

See value in town is the built in 1884-1896 Roman Catholic Sacred Heart Church. It was built in the Gothic Revival style and has a high altar, which was modeled on the altar of the Cathedral of Brussels. Above Stans is the built in 1667 small pilgrimage church of Maria Tax with frescoes of the famous painter Christoph Anton Mayr. At the western entrance to the village is a stone shrine dating from around 1500.

Tourist significant are the monastery on the Wolfsklamm achievable St. George Mountain, one of the most popular Tyrolean pilgrimage sites, further which is located on a hill north-eastern Tratzberg. Popular with hikers is also the part of St James, the Jenbach about Stans, the monastery of St. George Berg, to Vomp, pin Fiecht, and from there via Terfens to Umlberg, Pilgrimage Church of Maria Larch, retires. It is clearly marked and also suitable for beginners.

In Stans, a very peculiar form of Anklöpfelns received during the Advent season. This ancient custom is carried out every ten years.

Economy and infrastructure

In the commercial area Dornau to large and medium enterprises have settled, including the back upon a long tradition of fruit juice and jam producer Darbo. This helps Stans to a positive commuter balance. Besides Darbo is the company of family Gschwentner, Traveleurope, the largest employer in the town. Stans has also become more interesting as a recreational village for tourists.

Transport default, the location of the exit of the motorway A12 Schwaz and a stop on the Western Railway is opened.

Personalities

From Stan the painter Josef Arnold the Elder (1788-1879), freedom fighter Anton Obrist came (1759-1834) and his son, the farmer poet Hans Obrist and Johann Kellerer, head gardener of the Bulgarian king.
