Stansfield Turner

Stansfield Turner ( born December 1, 1923 in Highland Park, Illinois ) is a retired American admiral and Director aD the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA ).

Biography

After visiting the Highland Park High School, he began in 1941 to study at Amherst College. He then began his military service in the United States Navy and was a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering ( BSElec.Eng. ). He completed post-graduate studies at Oxford University and completed this in 1950 with a Master of Arts ( MA).

In the course of his subsequent military service, he was from 1972 to 1974 President of the Naval War College. During the presidency of U.S. President Jimmy Carter, he was from 1977 to 1981 director of the Central Intelligence Agency ( CIA) and also Director of Central Intelligence.

After retiring from this office he was in 1981 awarded the National Security Medal. During his military career, he was also awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and several other honors.

Later he went into the private sector and was a board member of the agri- biotech company Monsanto. He was also a 1991 guest lecturer at the University of Maryland as well as administrator of the visitors of the local committee Goucher College and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
