Staphorst

Staphorst ( listen? / I ) is a municipality in the Netherlands, Overijssel province. It has a total area of ​​approximately 136 km ². Their population was 16,267 on 1 January 2013.

The municipality comprises the villages Staphorst as the seat of the municipal administration, Rouveen, IJhorst, and the place Punthorst.

Location and economic

Staphorst lies in a bog 6 km south of Meppel and 20 km north of Zwolle, on the highway A 28 Zwolle - Meppel - Groningen / Leeuwarden. The railway line between these cities through the town, a train station has Staphorst not.

The community is rich in dairy farms. There is some metal, woodworking and plastics industry. The east of the community at IJhorst is sandy and rich in forests, there tourism is important.

History and character

The villages emerged in the 13th century, when farmers settled to make the bog reclaimed peat and to win. The long-drawn Staphorst, the way imperceptibly merges into Rouveen to the south, was over the centuries a number of times, including its village street (which is part of the ancient trade route Zwolle - Groningen was ) completely demolished and rebuilt on something.

The village consists of characteristic, partially painted green farms, mostly from the years 1800 to 1920, on narrow, mile-long plots. Most residents of this community belong to orthodox Calvinist churches. As in the fishing village Spakenburg wear on Sundays, especially the older women still have traditional costumes. On these days, taking photographs for a visitor applies.
