Star in the Night is an American short film by Don Siegel from the year 1945.

Action

It is December 24th, somewhere in the southwestern United States: Three Cowboys are loaded with toys in an American desert landscape go. They discuss why they have bought so much in the last town. It should not only have been the nice saleswoman, says one, but the inner desire to buy something to get it to give away later. The three see in the distance a big star and decide to follow this star. The star belongs to the Christmas Illumination by Nick Catapolis motel and gas station. Nick hates Christmas, the people throughout the year but are unfriendly to him and believe they should be at Christmas then particularly wrong - friendly. A hitchhiker asks Nick to be able to warm up in his guest room, but was finally Christmas and thus the time of charity. Nick refuses. Nevertheless, the hitchhiker follows him into the interior of the motel.

Miss Roberts complained once more about the carols singing guests of the motel because they had to get up early the next morning. A traveling couple appears and rented the last room of the motel, but wants to have extra blankets, as the rooms are always cold in motels. Nick's wife Rosa are with both their own blankets.

Suddenly, Jose Santos and his pregnant wife Maria appear at the motel. Maria is in bad shape, but is no more space free. Pink brings both short hand under the stall and embeds Maria on hay. José is already in the guest room when Rosa excited to come back to a time in the motel. She asks the wife of the traveling couple to come to the barn with her. Whispering, she tells her that have used Maria labor. Miss Roberts comes up again complain, but also learns from Rosa the news. Immediately, she agrees to help. Your sleep is no longer important. Production

Star in the Night dealt with the Christmas story in a modernized form. The template for the screenplay was written by Robert Finch. The short film was Don Siegel 's directorial debut and was released on 13 October 1945. In addition to the documentary Hitler Lives, in which his name was not called as a director, Star in the Night was the only short film, Don Siegel turned.

Awards

Star in the Night was awarded in 1946 with an Oscar in the category "Best Short Film ( Reel Two ) ".
