Star Trek fandom

Trekkie or Trekker is the name given to a follower of the television series Star Trek.

Some Trekkies meet regularly at regular tables ( Trek Dinner ), visit so-called Star Trek conventions ( eg in Germany FedCon, Galileo 7 Con), participate in role-play or write fan fiction.

The term Trekkie is in the Oxford English Dictionary ( unabridged version and online version ) is entered, which is unprecedented succeeded any other fan group.

Trekkies in various films

Denise Crosby has shot two documentaries about Star Trek fans. In Trekkies (1997) the ( most extreme ) U.S. Star Trek fans were shown. The European fan scene was featured in Trekkies 2 ( 2004). In addition, Trekkies are sometimes parodied in the U.S. TV series like The Simpsons or American Dad. The series The Big Bang Theory is about four young physicists, which are also Trekkies. In Galaxy Quest, as well as in Fanboys Trekkies also play a role.
