StarDict

StarDict is an offline dictionary program. It requires GTK2. The dictionaries are UTF- 8 encoded.

StarDict is currently available for the following platforms:

  • Linux ( x86)
  • Windows

StarDict represents a frontend for the DICT dictionary format, are available for the number of free dictionaries and dictionaries on the Internet. A special feature is that in the scan mode a is translated directly with the mouse highlighted text ( tooltip).

Properties

Besides the quality of the dictionary entries used the entry structure is a problem in programs such as StarDict. The records exist in StarDict only two fields, so there is no definitions or references can be detected.

Not present are standard import and export formats, such as TBX, as well as an interface for WAN-based entry detection and dictionary publication.
