Stare Miasto, Wrocław

Wrocław - Stare Miasto Stare Miasto, or simply ( "old town" ) is a municipality in the center of the Polish city of Wroclaw. It consists of the historic nucleus of the city and two former suburbs that were amalgamated in 1808 after the demolition of the ramparts.

General

Since 1990, the smaller districts ( pl. Osiedle ) have gained importance in the Polish local government policy, but a municipality as Stare Miasto still possesses some township authorities as its own financial authority ( pl. Urząd Skarbowy ), a health department or a police department.

The three neighborhoods of the district were almost completely destroyed in World War II. The old town was largely rebuilt in the historical figure.

The south of the district lying Przedmieście Świdnickie ( " Schweidnitzer suburb " ) until the 1990s, the actual business center of the city, has built partly with historicist buildings in the 1950s; the Baufluchtlinien were kept there. A particularly interesting applies uniformly held historicist buildings of the square Plac Kościuszko. It corresponds to the original plans of a French pioneer officer at the beginning of the 19th century, who planned the place as an imitation of the Place Vendôme in Paris.

The west of the old district lying Szczepin ( " Tschepin ") was built with as little appealing applicable housing estates.
