K. K. Star Flyer (Japanese株式会社 スターフライヤー, Kabushiki - gaisha Sutāfuraiyā, Eng. Starflyer Inc. ) is a Japanese low-cost airline based in Kitakyushu.

History

On December 17, 2002 under the name Kobe Airlines (神 戸 航空, Kobe koku ) founded the company originally intended to be located at the new airport Kobe. The following year, the airline was renamed Star Flyer and moved to the New Kitakyushu Airport. The colors black and white dominate the corporate identity - from the painting of the aircraft, through the design of check- in counters and lounges to the website. Star Flyer is quite different from the known low cost airlines such as Ryanair, Easyjet or German Wings. The up to 180 passengers laid out in a class Airbus A320 -200 was equipped with only 144 leather seats, all of which are equipped with LCD monitors. In addition, at each seat an electrical outlet for operation of notebooks available. At the bottom Starflyer provides its passengers in addition to a lounge. All aircraft in the fleet carry the logo on the tail: "City of Kitakyushu " and thus advertise for the city in the north of the island of Kyūshū.

With the Japanese All Nippon Airways Star Flyer went on 17 August 2005 a cooperation agreement, which includes taking care of the fleet and the crews.

The initial capital of 1.822 million yen ( ~ 16.2 million EUR ) ( EUR 27.7 million ~ ) was the end of 2005 by the participating societies to 3 billion yen increased. That same year, Takaaki Hori took over the management of the company from Osako Shinobu.

In Kokura the reservation center was opened on 16 January 2006. After a few minutes the tickets were sold out for the first flights in May. A plane from the Star Flyer opened on 8 February 2006 the New Kitakyushu Airport, built on an artificial island off the coast. In 2006 it obtained for the designed by the company, Flower Robotics Inc. Design the "Good Design Award 2006".

After delivery of the first three factory new Airbus A320 -200, after the flight was operating on 16 May 2006, three months after the opening of the newly -built airport from Kitakyushu added. The first flight connection existed between Kitakyushu and Tokyo Haneda, now also the airports Osaka / Kansai and Fukuoka fly (November 2011),.

The city government of Kitakyushu holds her staff to book only flights with Star Flyer for official travel in the capital Tokyo.
