Starman is an American science fiction film from 1984, starring Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen. The film was directed by John Carpenter.

Action

An alien ( American Original: Starman ) follows the invitation of the Voyager Golden Record, which is carried by the Voyager spacecraft to visit the planet. Upon entry into the Earth's atmosphere his spaceship is bombarded by fighter jets and forced to land on Earth. According to the analysis of films, photos and the DNA of a strand of hair the alien takes the form of the deceased husband of Jenny Hayden Scott. After initial resistance, Jenny travels with him to the Barringer Crater in Arizona, where the alien is to be picked up again in two days. The ratio of the two to each other is initially very tense. Jenny responded initially distraught at the strange behavior of the aliens. However, the situation is improving by the hour. The alien learns to speak, eat and also drive the car.

He is also in possession of some small balls which give him special powers. Thus ( for example, once he makes a been shot deer back to life ), he attracts attention and is soon chased by the military that a threat, but also an interesting research object sees the aliens. Opponent of the military is the scientist Mark Shermin who rejects all violence and would only communicate with the aliens. The highlight of the chase is the explosion of a tanker from which the aliens can save and downed Jenny using the penultimate small ball.

After a night of love Starman says to Jenny, who considers himself to be barren, " it is a man baby ".

Series

Based on the feature film was 1986 to 1987, a 22 -part science- fiction television series produced ( The man from another planet ), in which the " Starman " by Robert Hays is played.

This comes back to earth to (played by CB Barnes ) to take his son Scott Hayden and to become together with him on a search for his missing mother.

Criticism

The lexicon of the International film ruled the film was " at best by some interesting special effects. "

Awards

  • Jeff Bridges was nominated in 1985 for the role of the alien Starman for an Oscar. In the same year he won a Saturn Award for Best Actor.
  • The film won for Best Science Fiction Movie and Best Actress ( Karen Allen), two nominations for a Saturn Award.
  • Jack Nitzsche and Jeff Bridges 1985 were nominated for the Golden Globe.
