State House of Namibia

The State House ( German State House ) is a complex with various buildings and also serves as the official and residence of the President of Namibia and is the seat of the Namibian government. The building complex is located between Robert Mugabe Avenue and Engelberg- street, in the Namibian capital Windhoek district Auasblick.

History

The State House was built by the North Korean art troupe company Overseas Projects in a construction period of 66 months. In September 2002, towards the end of his tenure, Sam Nujoma, the first President of Namibia, the beginning of the construction of the new palace had initiated that should replace the old State House, the President in the city center, because the office space in the old State House very inadequate and the parking lot was too small.

On March 21, 2008, the Namibian President Hifikepunye Pohamba opened the house in the presence of Kim Yong -nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of North Korea, and the Cuban General Leopoldo Cintra Frias. The residence of the President was initially not yet completed, the Cabinet Secretariat had to commute between the Old State House and the new building. On 2 September 2008 the first cabinet meeting could take place. On 4 June 2010 finally pulled the Namibian President in the new presidential residence.

According to unofficial estimates, the construction of the complex between 413.2 million and 600 million, or even 1.1 billion Namibian dollars cost. 40 Namibian Contractors and suppliers involved in the construction project. Another 100 Namibians worked with on the project.

Old State House

The Old State House of Namibia was already used to South African times as South African Administrator - residence. It was from 1990, especially the presidential residence and was used as such also to June 4, 2010, as the new President house was completed on the grounds of the new State House only at this time. The Old State House is located in Robert Mugabe Avenue in Windhoek - Central district, near the Church of Christ. Because of the central location and the narrow building but an expansion of the building was not possible, so that the new State House had to be built.

On 20 July 2010, the Cabinet decided that the old state house to serve as a new residence and office of the Namibian Prime Minister. In April 2013 it was announced that this will be renovated for 18.8 million Namibia dollars.

Structure of the complex

The site covers 25 hectares and was edged with a two-kilometer long steel fence. There are dark glazed watchtowers at each of the four goals also great guard rooms at each corner of the enclosure.

The administration wing consists of the Office of the President, the rooms of the cabinet members and 200 staff offices of the President. A guest house for heads of state on a state visit and two apartments for additional state guests is a bit off, as the president's home. Also find here garages and accommodation for police forces and security personnel. Opposite the main gate on the opposite side of the road there are two helipads. About the partially park-like grounds are spread out copper animal replicas (eg kudu and elephant ).

The State House has four inputs.
